After more than three decades of dedication to dedication, Steven Bair is retiring from Glenbard East High School, leaving behind a legacy as both a respected teacher and coach.
Bair began his journey at East over 33 years ago, first serving as a substitute teacher before transitioning into a full time teaching position. From the start, his focus was clear: showing up each day ready to give his best to his students.

“My favorite part of teaching has always been doing the best job I can in front of the students,” Bair shared. “I love being a role model.”
Beyond the classroom, Bair made a lasting impact through coaching. Over the years, he dedicated his time to Bowling, Baseball, Football, and Softball, building relationships with student athletes across multiple seasons.
When asked if he had a favorite sport to coach, Bair said he didn’t. Instead, he appreciated each one for different reasons, noting that he enjoyed seeing the best in every team and embracing the change each new season brought.
Reflecting on his time at East, Bair said the most significant change he has witnessed has been the advancement of technology in education.
When he began teaching, attendance and grading were done entirely on paper. Today, iPads and digital platforms are central to classroom instruction and organization. While he recognizes the benefits of modern technology, he admits he appreciates aspects of both the old and new methods.
As he looks ahead to retirement, Bair says he will miss working with students most of all, along with the friendships he has built with fellow staff members throughout the years.
Retirement will take Bair beyond Lombard as he plans to travel, fish in Minnesota, hunt, and enjoy snowmobiling.
Though he may be stepping away from the classroom and the sidelines, his influence at Glenbard East will undoubtedly continue to be felt for years to come.
